We are Anglicans

St. Albans Church is a parish of the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa, the Anglican Church of Canada and the world-wide Anglican Communion. Our membership, however, is diverse, and includes Catholics, Evangelicals, Orthodox, Pentecostals and Protestants, to name just a few of the traditions that are represented in our community.

It is the policy of the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa that no one be excluded from any ministry or leadership position, including ordination, on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation or gender identity/expression. All are welcome in our Spirit-Led, Christ-Centred, Contemporary Urban Church.

What We Believe

As Anglicans, we don’t define our doctrine in a single confession. We are a people united by common prayer, so to find out more about what we believe, you’ll need to pay attention to our liturgies (worship services) and the ways in which our faith shapes the way we live in the world. St. Albans Church is a contemporary expression of the Anglican tradition, passionate about social justice and fully engaged in what’s happening in today’s world.

Our faith is shaped by Scripture, Tradition and Reason. There are a number of historic definitions of faith that are important to us. These include the Apostles’ Creed, the Nicene Creed and the Athanasian Creed.

Five Marks of Mission

We believe that mission is core to the life of the church. Our community’s life is shaped by the Five Marks of Mission. These challenging statements are all ways in which individuals and church communities are called to serve the world God loves:

  • To proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom
  • To teach, baptize and nurture new believers
  • To respond to human need by loving service
  • To seek to transform unjust structures of society
  • To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth
